Chapter 24

Leo and his team prepped for their assault on the Mantis base, each member going through their rituals. The air in the staging area buzzed with a mix of tension and anticipation. Gear clanked, weapons were checked and rechecked, and the low hum of the antigrav vehicle's engines underscored the nervous energy.

"Alright, listen up," Leo barked. "This one's gonna be rough. Stick to the plan, watch each other's backs, and we'll get through it." His words were met with determined nods and grim faces.

As they boarded the antigrav vehicle, the usual banter was replaced by a heavy silence. The antigrav vehicles skimmed over the treetops at great speed, and in less than half an hour they were within sight of their target.

Leo took in the surroundings and then instructed the pilot to drop him off at a small hill that overlooked the Mantis base.

“Slight change of plan,” he informed his crew. “You all carry on as we discussed, but I’m gonna rain down fire from that vantage point there. Otherwise, stick to the plan.”

The vehicle hovered over the hill, and Leo jumped out, landing with a thud. He took a moment to take in the view. Below him, the Mantis base sprawled out, a hive of alien activity. The base's structures were a grotesque blend of organic and metallic, pulsating with a sickly green glow. Mantis soldiers scurried about, their exoskeletons glinting in the dim light.

“Okay, boys,” he announced over his comms crystal. “Light ‘em up.”

The antigrav vehicle's cannons roared to life, the sheer force of their discharge shaking the air. Plasma bolts streaked through the sky, glowing with a deadly blue intensity, while ion blasts crackled with energy, their trajectories marked by trails of white-hot light. Each projectile struck the Mantis base with explosive precision, detonations blooming like fiery flowers across the compound. Structures crumbled under the relentless assault, debris raining down and shattering on impact. Mantis bodies were flung into the air, limbs torn asunder, their green ichor splattering the ground in grotesque patterns.

The initial bombardment threw the base into utter chaos. Mantis soldiers, caught off guard, scrambled to respond, their movements frantic and disorganized. Some were incinerated where they stood, their chitinous armor offering no protection against the searing plasma. Others were blown apart by the ion blasts, their remains scattered like grotesque confetti. Smoke and dust filled the air, reducing visibility and adding to the disorienting cacophony of battle. Amid the carnage, alarms blared, and the panicked shrieks of the Mantis mixed with the thunderous roar of the cannons, creating a symphony of destruction that echoed across the landscape.

Leo didn't waste any time. He channeled his energy, eyes narrowing as he prepared to unleash hell. "Time to raise some hell," he muttered, feeling the familiar surge of power flow through him.

He started with the Whirlwind Spell.

Whirlwind Spell (Level 27): subject can unleash a powerful whirlwind.

Leo thrust his hands forward, and a massive vortex formed, growing rapidly in size and intensity. The air roared as the whirlwind spiraled down into the heart of the Mantis base.
